UPDATE ON THE MUSEUM OF THE PEOPLE (AKA THE DIASPORA MUSEUM)

The Museum of the Jewish People at Beit Hatfutsot is undergoing serious renovations. An integral part of the museum has always been to show and explain the history of the Jewish people from the destruction of the Second Temple to today … and there will be more emphasis on “today”…

One of our favourite exhibitions is on the Synagogue Floor, which houses models of the many types of “house of worship” that existed and exist today… including what many find surprising – the Chinese synagogues and the Jewish-Chinese connection.

And an important note: The museum is wheelchair accessible – and it seems to have been a priority.

For example on the on the synagogue floor, each display has an explanation in Hebrew and English and is at the comfortable height for anyone in a wheelchair to be able to read easily…

We have not visited all the museums but have heard good things about them… We do not have to help promote the well-known,  major museums of Israel such as Jerusalem’s  Israel Museum or the Bible Lands Museum , and Tel Aviv’s The Museum of the People aka Diaspora Museum, or Tel Aviv Museum of Art and Eretz Israel Museum aka in Hebrew as Haaretz Museum, but would like to bring to your attention some wonderful museums less known! Magasin III Jaffa (Brief Intro) – Magasin III is situated in Stockholm and has exhibitions of internationally known artists) …  the museum/gallery is one of Europe’s leading institutions for contemporary art – closed now until May 2020 for renovations and revamp.  One year ago, they opened a permanent satellite space on 34 Olei Zion St. in Jaffa, featuring local and international artists. https://www.magasin3.com/en/jaffa/

The Nahum Gutman Museum of Art is situated in a historical building, built in 1887 …  The artist’s family donated the collection. Design Museum Holon, a remarkable, iconic building by Israeli architect Ron Arad, which is the first museum in Israel solely dedicated to Design… it is considered one of the leading museums of design and contemporary culture in the world.. General : According to the Israel Value Added Tax Law, a wide range of tourism services provided to tourists (foreign citizen), during their stay in Israel, are subject to zero VAT.
Section 30(a)(8) of the Value Added Tax Law 1975, and regulations 12(a), 12a(c) and 12b of the Value Added Tax Regulations 1976 – stipulate that a zero tax rate will apply to certain tourism services provided to tourists in Israel; in other words, the VAT payment on such transactions, as aforementioned, is zero.

As of October 2019, there will now be direct flights between Budapest and Tel Aviv with Ryanair.

As reported in a newsletter from the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) an archaeological site in Be’er Sheva has been discovered – a 2000-year-old Jewish settlement.  A small sherd with a 9-branched menorah depicted on it is considered a rare and treasured find!

According to Newsweek Magazine, the largest hospital in Israel – the Tel Hashomer Hospital aka as Sheba Medical Center, came in #10 among the best hospitals of the world.  For about 30 years the hospital has been open to patients from all over the world and the hospital has official medical agreements for evaluation and treatment with many countries including, Jordan, Greece, Russia and others.
